Field Notes

Description:

This cicada was 1 and a half inches long, and 1 inch wide. It is mostly brown, with a little bit of green. The cicada has 6 legs, and 4 semi-transparent wings folded on top of each other.

Habitat:

The dead cicada was found in a spider web which was located in the Singapore American School's rainforest. Singapore is located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 85 miles north of the equator.

Notes:

You can hear cicada's up to half a mile away during the day time. There are about 2,500 of them around the world, but some only live for a day or to, meanwhile the adults tend to live for 2 to 3 weeks.
