Description:

Reptile with a rather eroded shell.

Habitat:

Yala National Park. My sister's hat had blown off and the driver reversed the jeep to go back to where we had been waiting to spot bigger game earlier...and then, this little one crept into view. there was a water hole nearby. Guess that is where it is headed.

Thank you, Tukup. I am always very happy when an Unknown species gets its name back.
Hi Sukanya. Nice catch on the turtle. There are only 3 terrestrial turtles found in Sri Lanka. The selection of the Flap Shell Turtle is more by the process of elimination than anything else. The Parker’s Black Turtle is very rare with only a few specimens seen. The color of the head, neck and plastron is all wrong as is that of the Sri Lanka Black Turtle. While the shell of the Flap shell appears different, the poor condition may account for that. The head, throat and plastron match.
