Field Notes

Description:

There were both male and females present. The males had their white breast feathers and black head The females had there brown heads.

Habitat:

River

Notes:

I observed several pair of merganser entering our park the dive for fish. They would go up to the edge of the ice sheet in our harbor and dive under for the fish. On one occasion I observed one of the males become aggressive and charge another male in the water. I did not get to see why that male decided to charge the other. I also got to observe a female swallow a fish whole after she had caught it. Before she could eat the fish she had to swim away for the rest of the flock.
