Field Notes

Description:

I've waited so long to spot this little sparrow with quite the antics! Though very similar to the Song Sparrow, Melospiza melodia, the Fox Sparrow, Passerella iliaca, has a more reddish plumage, and a gray head. They are migratory this time of year and will migrate to northern Canada for the summer.

Habitat:

Found at the bird feeder, seemed to be a ground feeder. Retreated to the ornamental bush thickets when I made a slight movement.

Notes:

I'm so glad to have this one as a lifer! Such a beautiful bird.

Thank you very much, Ashley, Christiane, Noel, Fyn, and Smith's Zoo! I was so happy to see this little bird! It was very happy with the juncos. Dez, it was standing on snow, the day before Spring! We still had snow the day of Spring, but it finally has melted and hopefully Spring is on its way!
Whoo hoo! Good one, great shots! Sadly this one is not one I have on my list. Congrats buddy.
Well done J... It is a beautiful bird... :)
Cute little guy playing with the junco :)
