Field Notes

Description:

Only Illinois deer, upper body dark brown for most of the year. In spring the upper body takes on a light orange tinge. Lower body and frontal throat patch are white.

Habitat:

White tail deer are edge animals that prefer the margins where wooded areas meet open ares. Deer populations in this area are large and healthy, as are the individuals in the local population.

Notes:

One or two individuals can be seen in most nature hikes around or through the area.
