Description:
An incredibule zebra-striped butterfly of the Family Lycaenidae (Hairstreaks and Blues). I caught a glimpse of bright blue on the upper side when the butterfly flew away. He was constantly wiggling the long tail appendages while feeding. As you can see in the third picture, the tail end is supposed to look like a head to distract birds from attacking the true head.
Habitat:
On flowers and weeds in the cleared area of the observation site for viewing the Dovali Bridge over the Coatzacoalcos River, Veracruz, Mexico.
Notes:
An often used invalid synonym of Panthiades battus is Panthiades bathildis. This butterfly is rarely seen.
