Field Notes

Description:

The tree is very tall. It has no flowers or fruit (it's not the season for the bananas to grow). The leaf shape - shown in the first picture - is lanceolate; they're very high up so I can't get the exact measurement, but they are roughly 290 cm long and 70 cm wide. The leaf arrangement is subopposite. I can't feel them, again because they are too high up, but it looks like they have small ridges. The bark (second picture) is mostly smooth but slightly rough. There are lots of small bugs crawling along the trunk. The roots are buttress.

Habitat:

Secondary rainforest, shady spot
