Field Notes

Description:

Cluster of brown-capped mushrooms with white veil remnants which give a fuzzy appearance. Gills are cream colored and slightly decurrent with lamellulae present. Young specimens are covered in cobwebby white veils. Stipes are white and bulbous with veil remnants. Yellow staining is apparent near the bases. A flimsy (very cobwebby) white ring zone is present near the apex of the stipes.

Habitat:

Growing in a cluster on an oak tree wound at the base of a ridge in a dense mixed hardwood/pine forest. Northwest Georgia.
