Hi Jemma, this looks very similar to one of my spottings, a Soldier Fly. I am not absolutely certain but here is a link that might help: http://bugguide.net/node/view/434621/bgpage Here is my spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17650035 The eyes are different but that might be a species/sex difference as I am pretty sure these flies eyes are different from male to female.
