Description:

This is a Male (larger) and female (smaller) Pied billed Grebe. Unlike other Grebes, there is not much color change during breeding season. One of the smaller of the Grebe family. Brown in color almost over all. Bill is very light and dark area near the end, and during breeding season the dark spot becomes a band around the bill. Small body and short neck with dark eyes instead of red eyes. Rarely seen flying, it prefers to dive away from danger and most flys at night.

Habitat:

Prefers ponds and lakes and some water ways.
