Field Notes

Description:

I'm guessing this is a young Zebra mantid because of the pink-brown colouration on the thorax and the hint of stripes on the legs. Adult Zebra mantids have characteristically patterned fore wings. This youngster was about 30 mm while adults reach over 50 mm in length

Habitat:

attracted to lights

Subtropical bush savannah with hot, erratically wet summers and mild, dry winters

Notes:

(this spotting is from the Botswana side of the Limpopo)

I am uncertain if this is Miomantis binotata. http://www.ispot.org.za/node/257558#comment-151414
Thank you Sir, Miomantis does seem to fit the bill; and thanks for the further refs, much appreciated.
Yes. Here. Adult male Miomantis binotata picture. http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r488/ParadoxicaMantis/MBinotataD70good2_zps6717181e.jpg It does not look like a Omomantis zebra. A website you might like. http://mantodearesearch.com/literature/
Can you give me a reference to follow up for Miomantis. Why is it not Omomantis? It is difficult to find comprehensive reference or ID information for our local species and to date I find I waste an awful lot of time trying to discover things on the internet but actually get nowhere.
