Field Notes

Description:

A green sea turtle on Poipu beach in Kauai. The second picture shows the "2 scales" between the eyes--one way to differentiate between a Green and a Hawksbill, which typically has 4 (2 pair.) Also notice the non-serrated shell and the triangular scute (shell segment) behind the head.

Habitat:

Costal marine

Notes:

This turtle was sunning on the beach the same day/time as a monk seal, with a humpback breaching just offshore...quite a day!
