Field Notes

Description:

The raccoon had walked along the path, leaving a long trail in the dust.

Habitat:

Path through meadow near Lewisville Lake.

Notes:

Raccoons are familiar animals with masked faces and ringed tails. They have five toes on both the front and hind feet. Their long, dexterous fingers enable them to open latches, untie knots, turn doorknobs, and open jars. Their prints look like tiny human baby handprints and footprints.

The area where I took those is a particularly good area to find tracks. The nearby lake attracts animals of all kinds, an often provides moist soil to hold their tracks. These in the dust were probably fairly fresh or the wind would have blown them away.
