Description:

The velvet mite is a insect that feeds off of dead plant material. These mites live underground but due come out after it rains. The mite itself has a soft velvet coat that is extremely soft to the touch. It is safe to pick up and its defensive maneuver is to curl its legs under its body. It is believed to only bread once a year.

Habitat:

Found in the Savannah Boime

Notes:

This is one of my favorite insects out there. Hope you get to see one.
