Field Notes
Description:
This tree was over 3 meters tall and it had cacao fruits sticking out of its bark. The fruit was green in color and some had some brown splotches on them. This tree had a lot of leaves. The dimension of the leaf was about 30 cm long and 10 cm wide. Its leaves had a stiff texture that was a bit rough. Its shape was elliptical. The trunk of the tree has a diameter of about 20 cm.
Habitat:
This Cacao tree was growing in Singapore American School's rainforest, which is a secondary rainforest. It was located in an area where it was quite shady, but probably gets enough sunlight, because it is taller than some other plants. I spotted it at 2:53 PM.
Notes:
The seeds of the cacao was dispersed around the tree as we can see they sprouting young plant (refer to the last picture). Cacao seeds are used to make chocolate (the seeds are inside the light green fruit).
