Description:
Also known as Forest or Wood Fox. Medium sized fox body length 64cm (25") plus the tail 28cm (11") average adult. Weighing in at 5-8kg (11-18 lbs). Dark grey coat with foxy red areas around the base of the ears and legs, blackish muzzle and short strong legs.
Habitat:
An endemic to central and northern South America. It frequents scrubby savanna, woodlands and sub tropical forest. This individual seen in the Brazilian Pantanal near rivers.
Notes:
Although these foxes do hunt and eat crabs, they are also quite opportunistic feeders and will take insects rodents and birds where they find them. There are a number of sub species throughout their range. This one being C.t. entrerianus.
