Field Notes

Description:

Very large beetle, perhaps largest beetle in the U.S. Male has relatively narrow body but very broad antennae.

Habitat:

Attracted to lights in highly urbanized area of Tucson, Arizona. Typical habitat is very dry Sonoran Desert with host tree (palo verde), mesquite, cacti.

Notes:

Formerly, this species was known as Derobrachus geminatus.
