Description:
Justicia brandegeeana Wassh. & L.B.Sm. (syn.: Beloperone guttata, Justicia guttata, Calliaspidia guttata), family Acanthaceae. Common names: Shrimp Plant, Brazilian Shower Plant, Caterpillars, False Hop, Fountain Plant, Lobster Plant, Mexican Shrimp Plant, Shrimp Bush. It is native to Mexico.
It grows to 1 m tall (rarely more) with spindly limbs. The leaves are oval, green, 3-7.5 cm long. The flowers are white, extending from red bracts which look a bit like a shrimp, hence the shrub's common name, Shrimp Flower or Shrimp Plant.
Habitat:
Makiling Botanic Gardens, a 300-hectare forest park of the Mt. Makiling Center for Mountain Ecosystems, UPLB-College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines at Los Baños, Laguna.
