Money plant, honesty
Lunaria annua
37.4041, -77.6997
Field Notes
Description:
An alien member of family Brassicaceae that has become naturalized in the United States after escaping cultivation. The plant is known as much from its seed pods as its flowers. The pods are large flats ovals. The fact that the number of seeds in each pod can be seen from the outside is the source of one of its common names, honesty. The roughly coin-shaped pods are the source of another common name, money plant.
Habitat:
Partially shaded fields and wooded areas.
Notes:
The dried stems and pods are commonly used in dried flower arrangements.
