Field Notes

Description:

Large green parrot with red and black wings, body length approximately 45cm. Uncommon.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard vegie garden

Notes:

I have spotted this species in my backyard on 2 occasions. The parrot proceeded to cut every seed out of each of my snake beans. It skillfully cut around each seed and popped it into its beak. I didn't know whether to chase away the parrot from my bean crop or continue watching this stunning colored bird. The latter prevailed. Every bean, still in-situ, with neat little flaps where a seed once was.
