Field Notes

Description:

Spotted salamanders are a common salamander and are wide ranging, found across the Eastern United States and Southern Canada. Warm rains wake the salamanders from their hibernation and send them into their breeding ponds. These mass migrations mark the beginning of spring for many herpers.

Habitat:

Hardwood vernal pool.
