Field Notes

Description:

This nymph was about 7 mm long and is in an early instar. There are 6 stages or instars before they're an adult. The "tooth" is visible on the top of the head, behind the antenna. This one is quite red compared to others I've seen. It has black antenna with four white spots. the legs are spotted in black and white. There is a white spot under each red eye. There is a thin, broken, white line down the sides of the abdomen.

Habitat:

California Bush Sunflower in Coast Sage Scrub.
