White Trillium
Trillium grandiflorum
41.5987, -73.4265
Field Notes
Description:
Large white flower, which will turn pink with age. It grows on an erect stalk above a whorl of three leaves.
Habitat:
Spotted growing in a wet, swampy forest.
Notes:
Trillium grandiflorum is a favored food of white-tailed deer. The roots were gathered and used by Native Americans for a variety of medicinal uses. The plants have also been picked and eaten in salads; however, this practice may be fatal to the plant because trilliums often die if their leaves are removed.
