Description:
Medinilla myriantha (family Melastomataceae), although known as the Malaysian Orchid or Malaysian Grapes, is a native to the Philippines. It is semi-epiphytic and has large leathery foliage that is dark green and has light green veins that get around a foot long. This plant produces light pink bracts (flowers) that may pop up at any time of the year. The flowers grow in clusters start light pink and darken to purple that resemble a bushel of grapes, before blooming. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds. It can grow to be 6 feet tall and spread out to 6 feet.
Habitat:
Huge garden of the Transfiguration Chapel in Caleruega, Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas, overlooking Mt. Batulao.
