Here is an interesting reference for dark forms of the Red-tailed Hawk. https://www.aba.org/birding/v36n5p500.pdf
Yes, this is a Red-tailed Hawk and it is one of the dark forms of this species, which can be highly variable in its coloration. The red tail is, of course, distinctive to the species, but another identification aid is the two areas of white mottling along the back which merge into a V-shape.| Nice spotting!
You are correct! This is an adult Red-tailed Hawk. Go ahead and update your spotting so the common and scientific names are in the appropriate spots. :-) Here is a good link with information: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-tailed_Hawk/id
