Field Notes

Description:

This tree was about 1 meter tall in height, and was still young and growing. Its flowers were pinkish in color and it had crimped petals. The leaves were green and small, and the branches were long and skinny.

Habitat:

I found this tree in Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was very wet and cool, since it just rained, but it was in an area of the garden where it can be exposed to sunlight. I spotted it at 6:33 PM.

Notes:

The Crepe Myrtle is from China, Korea, and Japan. It is often multi-stemmed and will grow up to 6 meters and spread out to about 6 meters. The bark is smooth and sheds each year, while the leaves are dark green and small. This tree prefers full sunlight and is frost tolerant. The flowers can come in a variety of colors, which are: pink, mauve, purple, and carmine, with crimped petals.
