Field Notes

Description:

2.5cm body length. The moth is battered as it panicked in the container and battered itself to a damaged condition. It still managed to fly off when released back at the capture point which was a relief

Notes:

file #big leaf moth 9992. 2nd research. Identification from bayucca (many thanks) Geometridae Oenochroma vinaria. I had gone with Oenchroma sp. as very few other moths of the genus are available in these references and then changed to the species above as bayucca extended his research although this moth is twice the size of my specimen

OK, re Phallaria sp. While the image in question is very greenish the markings look to be the ones on my images and I think I will change over the id. Very nice research bayucca

OK, next one... Yes, Vinaria is too reddish for yours. Tricky search on my iPad...

The third image is added bayucca. Although it is through the container lid it may be enough to assess the differences

I have found a link that gives further images of the moth you suggest. It is not O vinaria as shown here http://gvcocks.homeip.net/Lepidoptera/Geometridae/Oenochrominae/oenochroma_vinaria.htm The moth in my images has four dots on the wing tops and the underside showed no such patterns. I will add an image that may clarify the underside although it is not good. Certainly Geometridae and possibly/probably Oenochroma I will research a little more along that line and probably call it O sp. Many thanks for the identification bayucca
