Description:
Also known as the Woodcock Frog or Whistling Frog. A medium sized frog, males around 53mm and females at 56mm. Dorsal surface is heavily mottled dark brown on brown with six folds or ridges running from head to tail. The ventral surface is generally white but males have a dark coloured throat patch. The eye is bronze-yellow and the toes are unwebbed.
Habitat:
A widespread species found in tropical and subtropical forest and Savannah. Also like flooded forest. This one spotted in dry forest in the Brazillian Pantanal.
Notes:
Males give a whistling call which gave it one of its common names. The camouflage of these critters when sitting still in dry forest conditions is amazing hence its other common name.
