Field Notes

Description:

An unusual shiny black larva of the Family Geometridae (?), with red and white spots. It appears to have only 3 pair of prolegs at the terminal end. It looked a little like some kind of defecated material.

Habitat:

River Ravine of the Corazon del Fortin, Fortin de Las Flores, Veracruz, Mexico.

Indeed, and I was also considering the "hump" on the last segment of the body, and the arched midsection.
Looks very reminiscent of Notodontidae caterpillars.
