Field Notes

Description:

Did you know Kansas has a species of tarantula roaming around? Because I sure didn't until this morning. I'm no arachnophobe, but seeing a tarantula where you don't expect tarantulas to be sure gets the heart going. This beauty was about 5 inches across by the looks of her (I assume her, males travel long distances and apparently cover the dirt roads here in Kansas during mating time). Magnificent creatures, tarantulas. Even their name sounds cool.

Habitat:

The Texas brown tarantula is found in the States of Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and of course Texas. They can also be found down in Mexico near the border.
