Field Notes

Description:

This was a peculiarity in so much that this lizard ran very fast across the top of the water (much like the basilisk lizard but on all 4 legs, not just the back two ) in margin of a mangrove inlet for about 6 to 8 ft. and then up onto this root. It should be a Seychelles skink but seems very pale - albino? Any help appreciated.

Habitat:

Mangrove swamp.

My research agrees with Seychelles skink. Identified mostly with the black stripe and is bordered by lighter bronze stripes, which are very reflective. The picture on Wikipedia shows it well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seychelles_skink
I looked up the herpetofauna of the Seychelles. Seychelles skink (Trachylepis seychellensis)...maybe? http://www.cousinisland.net/discover/lizards/ https://islandbiodiversity.com/herps.htm
