Field Notes

Description:

An all black bird with a purple iridescent head. The bill is pointed, and the individual in the first two photos has a broken mandible.

Habitat:

Found mostly in the western US near water. We stopped at a rest area that is famous for birds, and there was a whole flock of these there.

Thanks Liam :) Poor guy, you think he can still eat okay with his bill broken like that?
Straight bill (with the exception of the first two shots) and range suggest Brewer's over Rusty.
