Field Notes

Description:

The Greater roadrunner is a long-legged bird in the cuckoo family, Cuculidae. Upper parts are brown with black streaks and lower parts are white to light brown with streaking on the neck and upper chest. They have a long tail and a brown crest (pic3).

Habitat:

Spotted foraging at Falcon Lake State Park in South Texas.

Notes:

They often eat poisonous prey such as scorpions and rattlesnakes.
