Darkling beetle
Opatrinus minimus
32.8874, -97.2829
Field Notes
Description:
This beetle was seen when I lifted over a large rock, and it crawled very fast to shelter underground from any predators. It has very sticky segments at the end of each leg, which was latched on to my fingers. This beetle is pretty common around here, but cannot be seen just crawling in the sun. Usually under rocks, or in leaf litter. This beetle has small indention markings throughout its elytron, with a matte black color throughout it's body.
Habitat:
In my garden, Fort Worth, Texas.
Notes:
Has short antennae.
