Flatid Planthopper
Geisha mariginellus

Field Notes
Description:
Geisha marginellus is a species in the family Flatidae. I come across several different species of Flatid, from time to time, and they seem to have a wide range of host plants. One thing that used to puzzle me is that there is almost always a white substance on the plant near the hoppers. However I am now pretty sure that it is the remnants of the "waxy filaments" of the nymphal stage. You can just about see some of this material at the top of the plant in my last picture. There is a nice photo of a nymph in - http://www.natureloveyou.sg/Minibeast-Hopper/Geisha%20mariginellus/Main…
Habitat:
This hopper was spotted on an unidentified pot plant in our back yard. When I disturbed it with camera flash, it flew a short distance and landed on a wall. This plant is locally called Talinga because, traditionally, the flower was worn by young ladies, behind the ear. The word "talinga" means "ear-ring" in the Tagalog language. I am trying to find the scientific name of the plant so that I can insert it here.
Notes:
The white material on the plant, mentioned in Description, above, can be seen much more clearly in my previous spotting of Geisha mariginellus - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings1789205983 - There are some nice pictures of this hopper including one of a nymph - http://www.natureloveyou.sg/Minibeast-Hopper/Geisha%20mariginellus/Main…
