Norfolk Island Hibiscus
Lagunaria patersonia
-32.8394, 151.704
Field Notes
Description:
A tall, pyramid shaped tree with leathery leaves and pink open bell shaped flowers, these flowers are followed by seed pods that contain material that is an irritant to skin. Severe itching occures and the tiny hairy fibres are so difficult to remove. For this reason these trees, though beautiful, are not recommended for suburban gardens.
Habitat:
Native to Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island.
