Field Notes

Description:

In a meadow of teasel I spotted a goldfinch eating the seeds. In the United States teasel is considered invasive and is discouraged from planting as it can crowd out native plants. But for the Goldfinch - teasel along with thistle are an important winter food source.

Habitat:

Spotted in a meadow full of teasel at Helen McCabe State Park.
