Description:
Recent years have seen a taxonomic reorganization of the violets. Ten or so years ago, these plants would have been classified as V. papilionacea based primarily on the lack of downy fuzz on the flower stem, lack of hairs on the base of the bottom petal, and the nearly hairless leaves.
Habitat:
Edges of moist rich woods.
Notes:
For some reason, I'm seeing a lot fewer violets of all sorts in the past few years. Could be I'm just too busy to catch them. Could be ecological succession as the land recovers from having a school built nearby. Could be both or something else entirely.
