Field Notes

Description:

This is a male of this sexually dimorphic species which occurs in New Guinea and Australia.

Habitat:

Spotted on Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) in a large semi-urban yard & garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

Notes:

Not a great spotting but since I'm trying to catalogue the species at this location (4 years spotting), and I think this has been my only observation, I decided to post this previously unidentified black & white butterfly (somewhat late!). The white cells (photo 2) look like they might be diagnostic. See third reference and the photographs and caption in this one: http://www.papua-insects.nl/insect%20orders/Lepidoptera/Papilionidae/Pa…
