Habitat:

Notes:
The weed that I have found in the property across from our house as well as all
around our area is the Leonopis weed, which is called the Lions ear. The first
time I saw this plant was up by the church on Omiopio about 3 years ago. Kula
nursery told my mom that a person planted a bunch of it in their garden just
up from the church on Lower Kula road and now it has spread many miles.
Every year we see it spreading more and is now even on the highway. This
weed first appeared in the 5 acre field across from our house about 2 year
seeds that it spreads quickly. The only way we seem to control it is my dad
mowing it down with a big tractor. He doesn’t have the tractor now so I don’t
know how we will control it in the future. It gets really tall and you cannot walk
through it without getting stabbed by the plant. Our horses hate it. It has taken
over 1/2 of the pasture next door. This plant totally blocks out other plants and
grass.
