Field Notes

Description:

This male is in breeding plumage. There are several subspecies of the Black Redstart, all differing slightly from each other. The orange-red belly and under-tail suggests this is an eastern subspecies. This variety is fairly similar to the Common Redstart male in summer plumage, however the black bib is a tell-tale sign this is the Black Redstart.

Habitat:

Spotted on the south-west coast of Qatar towards the Saudi border.
