Field Notes

Description:

Here, the birth of the new generation of semi-aquatic colonies on shores of a small river in Jura, after the old ones were apparently cut last autumn. These large red buds are probably rushes, recognized by their cylindrical stems (last year stems well seen in pics 2-5) , and the rhizomes (seen in Pic N° 1 in the background, and in pic N° 6).

Habitat:

Seen on shores of our swift and wild beautiful small river, Valserine, at the spot its rapids calm. The river flows through Jura mountain range, through its mixed forest, and this portion of it is particularly protected for its biodiversity.
