Field Notes

Description:

I found several bolete mushrooms of varying sizes beneath eucalyptus trees, in leaf and bark debris. What I thought would be an easy ID has become a little bit more complicated, but I think I have potential candidates narrowed down to two species: (1) Boletellus obscurecoccineus, aka rhubarb bolete, and (2) Boletus barragensis. Both species are Australian natives. Fairly aged specimens. Amazing pores. ID suggestions most welcomed.

Habitat:

Found growing in leaf litter beneath some large eucalyptus trees. Bordering bushland area at Griffith University, Nathan Campus, Brisbane.
