Field Notes

Description:

This was found on a tree still standing upright, decaying. The tree was dry, and so was the mushroom. The top was covered in a brown, bark-like structure, with a smooth, white mushroom at the bottom. It was around 20 cm long and 7 cm wide. This had a relationship with fungus beetles because the fungus is giving the beetle a home and food on the underside of the fungus.

Habitat:

They were both found in sunny, open spaces in the rainforest with very little cover. They were also both growing on decaying bark.

Notes:

There were a few trees surrounding it. It was dry. The underside was white, and was holding fungus beetles.
