Field Notes

Description:

About two and a half feet tall, about two feet of which is body. White body, gray wings with bark blue-gray upper wings and a dark blue gray crown. Red eyes and a dark beak. Pretty stocky with a fairly short neck for a heron.

Habitat:

Coastal marsh

Notes:

This bird was braver than most of the marsh birds which allowed us to get pretty close for pictures. He was hunting by the water's edge when we first saw him.
