Field Notes

Description:

Family: Hersperiidae (Skippers) Subfamily: Hersperiinae (Grass Skippers) Orangish-brown or dark brown and yellow. Big dark eyes. Knobs on antennae. WS 19-27 mm. Adults eat nectar from flowers including red clover, thistles (mostly purple and blue flowers). Host: Rice cutgrass, blue grass.

Habitat:

New meadow on the lawn. My first spot here.

Notes:

My favorite skipper butterfly. They are so cute.
