Field Notes

Description:

Very large, blue and red, flying in couples and eating the almonds at the large almond tree. spotted about 6 couples.

Notes:

Eating almonds, as large as they were, you could hardly see them, they blend with the red leaves. They look amazing when they fly, the bright blue and red shows very nicely.

I'm more inclined to Ara Macao Macao http://antpitta.com/images/photos/parrots/gallery_parrots1.htm
I thought the tail. To assuage the doubt lighten the second picture and notice the colors of the wing. http://www5.usp.br/6662/estudo-do-ib-com-araras-vermelhas-colabora-na-conservacao-da-especie/
Thank you for the ID, FAF. But is it an Ara macao cyanoptera or a Ara macao macao, or a Ara chloropterus?? the one I saw was very large but I could not see any yellow on the wings neither any green??
