Description:

Pachystachys coccinea Nees syn. Justicia coccinea, Jacobinia coccinea (family Acanthaceae), commonly called the Cardinal's Guard is a perennial evergreen shrub native to French Guinea, Brazil, and Peru, with elliptic dark leaves and red flowers on terminal spikes, and can grow to 2-6 feet tall.

Habitat:

Makiling Botanic Gardens, a 300-hectare protected forest park, situated at the lower elevations of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve's Molawin-Dampalit watershed in Los Baños, Laguna.
