Orange Sulfur Butterfly

An orange sulfur is a butterfly. The orange sulfurs wing span can be as big as 2 3/4 or as small as 1 3/8 inches. This butterfly is also known as the alfalfa butterfly. The orange sulfur is one of the most common butterflies in North America. These interesting creatures family is known as Pieride kingdom, they are very closely related to the yellow sulfur butterfly. The orange sulfur has yellow veins, dark black spots. The females can be yellow or pale. A sulfur can mate and lay 100 eggs multiple times in its lifetime. An adult can live up to 2 to 4 weeks, but if the butterfly manages to survive the winter it can live up to a year. These interesting creatures mostly eat at night. Did you know that the young orange sulfur caterpillar will a whole leaf each day, and a older caterpillar can eat only half? The orange sulfur drinks nectar and enjoys milkweed. The scientific name for the flying fritters are Colias Eurytheme.
