Lily moth larva. Larva de polilla de lirio
Brithys crini
39.7146, -0.198441
Field Notes
Description:
The caterpillars are black with white spots that give them a checkered appearance; the head is orange.
Habitat:
Dune area next to the Mediterranean Sea.
Notes:
The larvae enter the leaves to start feeding (probably as protection against predators), when they reach 2 cm in length they go outside to continue consuming the leaves and fruits of the host plant. They continue to grow up to 4 to 5 cm, at which point they bury themselves in the sand next to the nutritious plant to pupate.
